:FINE ART BACKGROUND

After gaining a BFA and MFA in painting and filmmaking, Laurie landed a prominent position as a film publicist in San Francisco. She was in charge of premiering notable foreign films new to the commercial terrain of American cinema. Choosing to pursue her own artistic ambitions, she moved to NYC and began a long career in set design while continuing to paint.  She was represented by the Philip Dash Gallery.

During that time, she assisted the renowned artist Red Grooms. Their most celebrated collaboration was the painting titled ‘An Evening Encounter”, purchased by The NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art, the only piece of Red Grooms’ in the museum’s collection. It still hangs today. (Fine Arts).  Laurie’s ability to sustain loyal, lasting relationships with her peers and colleagues is another strong attribute.  Many years later; she inspired Red to create a piece for the benefit foundation auction, TODAY IS THE DAY (press).  His painting, designed for the event, commanded the auction’s highest purchase price.

It is no surprise that her driving combination of interests led to the opening of her first own company, ARTFORMEDIA: the extraordinary, first-of-its-kind, website that exhibited, leased, and sold art, in addition to staging art placement for films, TV, public events and real estate. It was a brave leap into the online representation of visual artists and an immediate success (read more).  ARTFORMEDIA was a brilliant and cost-efficient platform for artists to present their work while consumers, art appreciators, event planners, and film producers could access and utilize the legally cleared property.

As Laurie continues to design interiors, she brings with her the exclusive repertoire of those artists whose work she also continues to sell and true to form, maintains close ties with her artists and collectors.
